F.A.Q. - Frequently Asked Questions
Do you sell prints? Do you take commissions?
Please contact me.
Can I use your artwork for my avatar/banner/icon?
Yes. I'd appreciate it if you made a note about where you got the artwork from, but I won't jump all over you if you don't. Knock yourself out.
Can I use your artwork for my RP character?
Again, yes. A link back here would be great, though.
Can I use your artwork on my website?
Yes with an asterisk. Please email me before putting my artwork on your website and let me know what you're going to use it for. Unfortunately, a lot of people are hotlinking to my artwork and it's kind of causing bandwidth drain.
Can I sell your artwork on EBAY, pretend it's mine, or use it in some way or form to make money off of it? CAN I??
I am NOT okay with people selling my artwork on Ebay. You would think this would be common sense, but alas, I've had to lower my expectations when it comes to collective human integrity. Just don't do it, alright? And as a side note, I definitely appreciate it when people recognize any of my stuff being used in this manner and go out of their way to send me a head's up about it.
Do you take requests?
Well... the short answer is no, not right now. I'm working now and I just don't have much free time to keep up with requests. I can and will do small stuff for people if the subject really catches my interest.
What kind of comments can I post here?
I don't really monitor the comments. Post what you like, I guess. And I am extremely open to hardcore critique, so don't feel bad about letting me know when something sucks.
What software/hardware do you use to make your artwork?
Most of this was made in Painter IX; older work was made with Painter 8. I also use Photoshop CS for certain things, like scaling and general image adjustments. I've tried painting in Photoshop, and I liked it but I'm not as used to it as I am with the Painter interface.
The software you use to make your art really isn't terribly important. You can get good results with nearly any modern package out there with a little practice.
All of my stuff was drawn with a Wacom Intuous III graphics tablet.
What brushes do you use?
I use four brushes pretty much 95% of the time. The square chalk brush, the digital airbrush, Don's Marker, and the Digital Watercolour Brush. I use paper settings for texture, and I've got a few specialty brushes that I made for certain situations. The real secret is that your brushes aren't as important as everyone thinks they are.
Do you have any tutorials? / Can you teach me how to paint?
I have made a few process images available in the Tutorial Images section of the gallery. I also have a digital painting tutorial you can look at here, and a landscape painting tutorial here. I'm still learning myself, so I'm not sure how useful they will be.
Honestly, the only way you or anyone will ever improve is practice. It's a sad truth, but you've got to make a ton of horrible art before you'll make anything decent. I'm still getting over the 'horrible' stage...
Did you go to art school?
No. I wish I could, though. Anyone wanting to give me a scholarship? Or just money will be fine. I will won't blow it all on movie tickets and Dots®, I promise.
How old are you?
I am now old enough to drink. Hoorah.
Can I see your professional work?
All of m y sad and lonely professional work is under NDA agreement and are not available publicly. I will give you a password to take a look if you're interested in professional collaboration.
How did you make this gallery?
